About the historical
Susanna Dickinson

Susanna Dickinson was a Texian survivor and witness to the Battle of the Alamo. Born in Tennessee in 1814, she moved to Texas with her husband, Almeron Dickinson, in the early 1830s. During the Battle of the Alamo in 1836, her husband fought alongside other defenders, while she and her infant daughter, Angelina, sought refuge inside the mission. Following the battle, Mexican General Santa Anna spared Dickinson's life and sent her as a messenger to General Sam Houston, informing him of the Alamo's defeat. Susanna Dickinson's eyewitness account of the Alamo's fall played a crucial role in shaping the historical narrative of the event. Her bravery and resilience in the face of adversity have made her an enduring figure in Texas history.
