Juana Navarro Alsbury
Juana Navarro Alsbury was born in 1812 in San Antonio de Béxar and was one of the survivors of the Battle of the Alamo. She was of Spanish and Indigenous descent, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the region. During the Battle of the Alamo, Colonel James Bowie fell ill and was nursed by Juana and others inside the mission. After Texas won its independence, Juana's intelligence, leadership skills, and dedication to her community made her a respected figure among her peers. Her impact extended beyond her personal life as she influenced the cultural fabric of Bexar County, where she left an enduring legacy.
