Clara Driscoll

Clara Driscoll played a crucial role in saving the Alamo as a historical landmark in San Antonio, Texas. In the early 1900s, she learned about plans to demolish the Alamo's Long Barrack and decided to take action. Driscoll formed the San Antonio De Valero Mission Historical Association and successfully lobbied the state government for its preservation. She personally provided the necessary funds to purchase the property and prevent its destruction. Driscoll's efforts led to the Alamo becoming a symbol of Texas history and a cherished site for visitors from around the world. Her dedication and financial support ensured the preservation of an iconic piece of Texas history.
